Fortnite Finally Back on the US iOS App Store After Ban Lifted

In Short
  • Fortnite is back on the iOS App Store in the US after being banned for nearly five years.
  • The return comes after a court ruling that Apple cannot take a cut on purchases made outside of its platform.
  • Players can get 20% back in Epic Rewards when they use Epic’s payment system on supported platforms.

Well, well, well… look who’s back. After being banned from Apple’s App Store in the US for almost five years, Fortnite has finally returned to the iOS App Store in the US. Apple users can now download the famous battle royale game from the Apple App Store, AltStore, and Epic Games Store.

It all started in 2020 when Epic Games added a special payment method inside the Fortnite app. This allowed players to buy V-Bucks (Fortnite’s in-game currency) directly from Epic and avoid Apple’s 30% fee. Apple didn’t like this move and removed Fortnite from the App Store, leading to a huge legal battle.

Fast forward to 2025, after court rulings, denials, and appeals, the court makes a major decision. The court ruled that Apple was ordered not to take a cut from purchases made outside its platform, which was a huge win for Epic, and Fortnite has returned.

How to Download Fortnite on iOS Devices

On May 21, 2025, Fortnite officially returned to the Apple App Store. Players can now download a small launcher from the store and install the full game, which is about 13GB in size. To download Fortnite on iPhone in the US, go to the App Store link and download the game from there.

Keep in mind that not every iPhone can run Fortnite. To run the game smoothly, your iPhone must have at least 4GB of RAM and be running iOS 17.6 or later. Here are some of the supported devices:

  • iPhone 11 and newer models
  • iPad models with enough RAM and the latest iOS version

Unfortunately, the iPhone SE (2020) won’t work as it only has 3GB of RAM.

To celebrate the comeback, Epic is offering a sweet deal. If you use Epic’s own payment system in Fortnite, Rocket League, or Fall Guys, you will get 20% back in Epic Rewards. These rewards can then be used for future purchases in the game.

Even when purchasing V-Bucks, iOS players will now clearly see this 20% bonus. The timing couldn’t be better. Fortnite is currently running a Star Wars-themed season, which began on May 2. From lightsabers to a Darth Vader skin, returning players have plenty to enjoy right now.

If you’re an iOS user and have been waiting all these years, welcome back to the island. Will you be returning to the island? Or are you trying it out for the first time? Either way, welcome back to the Battle Bus.
