Windows 11 Copilot Gets “Describe Image” Feature That Works Offline

In Short
  • Microsoft is introducing a new ‘Describe Image’ feature on Copilot+ PCs that can analyze and describe images, charts, and graphs.
  • It works locally offline on your Windows 11 PC and can be accessed from the “Click to do” menu.
  • The feature is currently available on Snapdragon X Copilot+ PCs, with Intel and AMD support coming soon.

Microsoft is coming up with new ways to improve the Windows 11 experience, and this time, it’s introducing a great feature called “Describe Image,” and it’s exactly what it sounds like. The AI assistant can now analyze the images, tables, and even charts and describe them in simple language, and that’s without an internet connection.

This new tool, officially called “Describe Image,” appeared in the latest Windows Insider Preview for developers. You’ll find it in the new “Click to Do” menu.

In its announcement, Microsoft explained that the feature is designed to give you “detailed descriptions of images, charts, and graphs,” making it perfect for getting a quick handle on visual information.

The “Describe Image” feature works locally, meaning you don’t need a stable internet connection. This is very useful for those who work away from home or in places with unstable Wi-Fi. Plus, since nothing is sent to the cloud, your photos stay on your PC, which is great for privacy.

Right now, this feature is available for Snapdragon X-powered Copilot+ PCs. If you have one of the new and sexy AI laptops, you might already be seeing the “Describe Image” option in the “Click to Do” menu.

If you have an Intel or AMD PC, be patient: Microsoft says support will be available soon. You can try it out early by joining the Windows Insider Program and installing the latest development build. But if you’re not interested in bugs and experimental features, I suggest you wait for the stable release.

If this is the future of AI on PC, I’m here for it. Hopefully, they’ll add more useful offline tools like this soon.
